Bideford Council loses court battle over prayers during meetings
I welcome this ruling.
Councillor Tony Inch, who supported the prayers said:
We seem to be going from one crisis to another. It has implications for councils up and down the country. Where is it going to end? It’s eroding the whole basis of Christian life in this country.
No, what erodes Christian life is the notion that people have to be compelled to pray as a part of the official business of a council. What strengthens Christian life is people praying of their own freewill before, during and after council meetings. If Mr Inch doesn’t know how to do this without prayers being an agenda item, then I can show him how.
5 “And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 6 But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. 7 And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. 8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.Tweet
