Whisper it gently: Piers Morgan has actually done rather well

It’s very difficult for me to summon up any great affection for Piers Morgan. But he does that job very well for himself.

But, say what you like about him, it is a massive achievement for him to succeed Larry King. It is a very well deserved appointment. It’s great to see a Brit getting the gig.

Morgan has proved himself to be an excellent interviewer of the old school. Like Parky – he actually listens to the answers. That could be because, like Parky, he has been a journalist for a great part of his life.

You have to laugh at this little exchange:

Piers Morgan just took vigorous exception to a reporter saying he doesn’t have a journalistic background.

“I was a journalist for 25 years on Fleet Street,” the newly named CNN host told Eric Deggans of the St. Petersburg Times during a conference call. “You can’t just glibly call me a non-journalist.”

Deggans said sure, but will Morgan have a problem because he’s not seen in America as a journalist?

“I will if eminent journalists such as yourself inform your readers I’m not a journalist,” Morgan said. “In my eyes, my journalistic pedigree is pretty strong.”

"There is a refreshing frankness to the musings of Liberal Burblings which single this blog out. The ability to not mince one's words is highly prized here and, when combined with the ability to profane without insulting the reader's intelligence, is excellent. Whether pondering on the state of the Lib Dems, the country or the world at large, you can rely on Liberal Burblings to tell it like he thinks it is." - www.politics.co.uk
