Perhaps this gives us a little clue as to why the Kennedy story was total equine manure from the start

Good old Charlie Kennedy has now unequivocally denied rumours he might be thinking of defecting:

It is absolute rubbish, I am not joining the Labour Party and have not had any discussions about it with anyone from the Labour Party.

I will go out of this world feet first with my Lib Dem membership card in my pocket.

This whole rumour started with this post on the Left Futures blog. Read down to the end. There is a little clue which gives the game away:

Charles Kennedy’s own Scottish seat of Caithness and Sutherland has historically been a Labour seat, before it’s then MP, Robert Maclennan, defected to the SDP in the 1980s, and was the party’s last leader

There is one slight snag with this. Charles Kennedy is not the MP for Caithness and Sutherland. He never has been. He is the MP for Ross, Skye and Lochaber. John Thurso is the MP for Caithness, Sutherland and Easter Ross.

Left Futures can’t even correctly name Charles’ long standing constituency. That gives you a clue as to the whole post’s fragile relationship with reality.

"There is a refreshing frankness to the musings of Liberal Burblings which single this blog out. The ability to not mince one's words is highly prized here and, when combined with the ability to profane without insulting the reader's intelligence, is excellent. Whether pondering on the state of the Lib Dems, the country or the world at large, you can rely on Liberal Burblings to tell it like he thinks it is." - www.politics.co.uk
