I hold no brief for Ed Balls – far from it. But it’s always great to have an opportunity to see Michael (aka “Mr Smug”) Gove squirm – as he undoubtedly does here. At the Commons, Gove often reads out examples of “easy” questions from GCSEs to support his case that standards are low. Here, he is hoist by his own petard when Ed Balls reads out some tough questions from GCSE papers which Gove is reluctant to have a stab at, for some reason.
